Kid asks Federer why his nickname is The Goat if there is 'limited livestock in Switzerland'

The young fan also asked Federer to hold off retirement so he could play against him.

PRESS CONFERENCES CAN be dull affairs.

Journalists ask questions, sports people do their best to say a lot without saying anything, and the world turns.

But every now and again — as we found out with Ireland and Roy Keane last year — a kid pops up with a question and the whole thing becomes much more enjoyable.

Step forward this youngster at the US Open who was confused about Roger Federer’s nickname:

Kid: “I wanted to ask you, Switzerland is really cool, right?

Federer: “Not always, most of the time.”

Kid: “There isn’t too much livestock. Why do they call you The Goat?”

Federer (laughing): “I don’t know. Some fans call me that. I don’t call myself that.

“Yeah, we have a lot of animals in Switzerland, and goats are part of the livestock we have over there, yes.”

The kid then followed up by asking the former world number one if he could postpone retirement so that they two could play against each other in a few years:
